Time to Light It Up

Yes, finally I’m talking paintball guns.  If you’re considering a gun, you ought to be fairly committed to the sport.  That’s not to say you want to play at competitive levels, but paying a couple hundred bucks is a significant investment.  If your local field charges $20 for rental gear, you won’t recoup the cost of getting your own gun until you play 10 to 15 times, or possibly more.  You have a long list to choose from and each will have things you like and things you won’t.  There’s a lot to cover so stay with me here.  I’ll start with you ought to know while you’re trying out paintball guns. Time to Get a Hopper

Nope, sorry, we’re still not to the point of talking paintball guns just yet.  You’ve got a good mask and your own gas source, but now you need to think about getting yourself a hopper.  While your HPA or CO2 tank powers the gun itself, a good hopper is essential to feed your ammo reliably.  After all, what’s the point of shooting blanks at people?  Read the rest of this entry »

Motorola Droid Does and Doesn’t

Posted by Eric on 23.11.09

I know, I know, I promised more on Paintball tips, but I’ve got to vent about this.

It seems like all carriers are mandating full data-plans on all their smart-phones now, so I upgraded to a Droid.  I’ve got to say I’m not a fan.  It’s a very competent device with a lot of power and potential.  It’s got a really nice display and the touchscreen works well.  It has a lot of great features on it, like the navigator, Internet browser, and the Facebook integration.  But I have to wonder how varied their product testers were.  I imagine the interface must be somewhat similar to an iPhone or even Blackberry, neither of which I’ve had much experience with, but it’s quite frustrating for someone coming from Palm OS & Windows Mobile, like me. Welcome New Players!

People like to share hobbies with friends and paintball is no different. One friend brings another along for a game and suddenly a new player is hooked. But let’s admit it, paintball is an obscure sport. Unlike more traditional activities like basketball, baseball, or soccer, most people don’t get much, if any, exposure to paintball as they grow up. So unlike more traditional sports you probably will be starting from scratch in learning this game. You may not know what questions to ask about this game or where to get answers. It’s to these new players, and perhaps some veterans who have forgotten a few things themselves, that I direct this article. I don’t claim to have all the answers but I can at least share a few things I’ve picked up over the last nine years. Over the next week or two I’ll share a few things to help you out. Whether you’ve hit a few games already or are interested in trying the great sport of paintball for the first time, here is what I wish I’d known when I started playing.
